The Fretboard Djent Thread

I may live to regret starting this but hey ho, what does Djent mean to most of you guys? Is it simply an onomatopoeia for the sound, or has it become a genre in it's own right?  
Is there anyone else here who enjoys a good bit of Meshuggah or Periphery on occasion?

I am not djent fan particularly but I went to see Meshuggah supporting Devin Townsend and they were brilliant. At the time I described it as "like being trapped inside a metal bin while someone hits it with a basball bat, but in a good way". They are so, so tight, it was mind-blowing to watch. Devin is more my cup of tea though, nice tunes.

I like Periphery, can take or leave pretty much all the rest.
