What's a half-decent 3/4 acoustic go for these days ?

My mate's 9 yr old lad has been learning guitar in school and has been using a real cheap thing that won't stay in tune etc, and now the bridge has separated from the top and the nut has come away !.  My mate wants to get him something half-decent but has no knowledge of guitars at all.  I'm not much use as the last time I bought an acoustic, Queen Victoria was on the throne.

Given that the only real requirement is that it can't be a toy, how much is he looking at for a good quality basic 3/4 acoustic ? - and are there any brands he should be steering towards ?

Ta muchly.

I've got a Cort Mini Earth 3/4.Haven't picked it up for about six months until last weekend.Had a strum and it was still perfectly in tune.In fact,I've had it for two years and it very rarely goes out of tune.£130 from Thomann and a really nice acoustic.

  • A second had Baby Taylor would get my vote too. They are really playable and sound decent for their size. A GS Mini is much better though - and quite a lot dearer.
