Anniversary of this death today.

I had a part time job at a garden centre when I was at college and a guy there leant me a copy of Bryter Layter, must have been around '92/93 I reckon....so thanks to John wherever you are now for introducing me to Nick's wonderful music.

  • So much love from Nick Drake in this house.  Time Has Told Me was the song me and the wife got married to, he (no personally or course) was playing when both our kids were born and it's really good settling music for the kids at night time.

  • Got to know of him via John Martyn's Solid Air (which is about Nick Drake).

    An exceptional talent....

Northern Sky for me. It has the ability to make me blub if I'm off my guard. It probably doesn't mean what I think it does but that's music eh.

Like Nick Drake. Some things like Pink Moon I can only listen when there's no-one else around, no distractions, or my good mate who likes him too is about.

In a certain large-chain music shop I used to rummage in the cupboards under the racks, and luckily found an LP box set of his albums plus one of unreleased stuff and a small book (bizarrely it says "four compact discs" on the box... ).

  • A friend played me 'River Man' on a hungover Sunday morning in the mid 90s...awesomeness.

  • River Man is a beautiful song, but my favourite album is Pink Moon.  Really enjoy Nick Drake stuff.

I got into Nick Drake through Robyn Hitchcock's more 'pastoral' stuff. Love him.

Bought Pink Moon when i was 15/16 off the back of a recommendation by the Black Crowes(of all people - not much Nick in there!)

It fit in nicely with the phase my friends and I were going through at that time by which we would go down to Penny Lane Records at school lunchtime and buy an album based solely on its cover - whether it was weird or spacey but it had to be som, ething we hadnt heard based solely on that! I remember one of the others bought Nashville Skyline at the same time. Great cover

Im not sure i really took in his music at that age. It was a couple of years before i picked up his other albums which probably would have been the more accessible choices. I feel very strongly that you should listen to his albums in chronological order. They are like seasons. You can feel the defeat in Pink Moon. Its almost unbearable.

    Great guitar player too.

Nick Drake's sister, Gabrielle was more famous than him in the late 60s/early 70s.  One of my teenage obsessions, a total babe.
Imagine something sharp and witty here ......

  • My dad met Gabrielle Drake in 1986-7 when working at Central studios (she was in Crossroads!)... of course I didn't know about Nick at that point.

  • Radcliffe and Maconie played Northern Sky this afternoon. Ironic as I'd driven from the North to the Midlands..... A lovely diversion from 'Smart' motorways and being tail-gated...

Always been a massive fan of Nick's from far back.

He made so many uplifting memorable tracks that still resonate today.  Wonderful guitar playing too.

Time has told me and Northern sky are probably my faves but so much to choose from.

I think I have all his stuff, it's great

I wish they would remaster them with some of the dated strings and flutes removed

Other than those elements, the music sounds largely undated

I had just read this story the other day:
