The obscure brilliance of Chinese and Far Eastern Product names.

I am hugely amused by the nomenclature used by Chinese and Far Eastern co's when naming their products.

From Joyo alone we have the mighty "Sweet, Baby' guitar combo, the D-Seed delay (to a gay man it sounds rather like unfeltching) the 'Roll Boost' and many more.

Mooer's names are equally funny- it's almost like they use a random word generator.

And when you go to the Far East you get to witness great local fashion labels like "Cool Style" and their difussion brand 'Trendy-Nice" (both real!)

Where on earth do they get these names from?

I would have thought that was more like telling that lesbian couple across the road that the arrangement is off.

"Unfeltching", isn't that a PInk Floyd album?

Hmmmm- so the local scissor sisters are plastic with rounded ends? Like the ones on Blue Peter?

LOL yeah I know about that one.

Equally spare a thought for General Motors who never could work out why the Nova didn't do so well in Spanish speaking countries.

  • I kind of miss the days when Chinese restaurants had names that sounded like the titles of a six formers poetry.  Friendship, Charisma, Good Friends,  Grand Fortune,  Croydon Palace etc.

On the latter, played a lot of cricket with a lad called Palash Joshi last year who is a most excellent guitarist too. Good quick bowler in verge of contract- anyway, we christened him "Crystal'. He loves it!! Even signs himself Crystal now.

  • I thought Pocari Sweat was Japanese. It's everywhere over there. My sister had some and said it just tasted like normal sweat.

I guess that picture isn't from Japan, though. 2.50 yen is about one-and-a-half pence.

They have "Calpis" everywhere as well. Perhaps there is a chap called Cal Pocari chained to the ceiling of a factory in Nagoya who gets force-fed various liquids while his excretions are harvested.
