DIY Plug Help

What's Hot
Hi guys,

I got a new lamp today to put on a shelf.  Thing is the shelf is fixed to the wall but has some gaps which I use to drop cables down the back of when I have take the plug off them.

Any ideas if this plug is removable?   I don't want to cut it and then rewire it.  There doesn't seem to be anything underneath the fuse...image

  • It looks bonded to me. I hate those - partially for the reason you mention.

It doesn't look like the normal molded type though, have you tried a screwdriver in those bottom clips to try and unclip them? A photo of the side would help as well.

  • I reckon you can open it up and there may well be a Euro-type one sitting inside. Might go through the gap if so.

I did try a screwdriver but I couldn't really move the clips.  I think that might be what's holding it in.  I didn't want to force them and break them incase I have to bring it back.  Maybe I'll just have to do a bit of cutting and wire up a new plug.....  I would like to keep the original plug though.

  • worth trying to click it open.... if it breaks you'll be able to route the flex as you wish then put a proper plug on afterwards*. If it doesn't, and you are able to route the flex with the plug in bits you're a few tens of pence better off for not having had to put a new plug on it.

    * or glue it back together again

You might be able to unwire it at the lamp.

No go....the lamp has a pad stuck to the bottom.

Thanks for all the suggestions.  I just cut the plug off and stuck a new one on.  I'm sure nothing will go wrong with it and it's working fine.  It was only £20 so it's no massive loss I suppose.

You are paying way too much for plugs.

  • Very nice, should bathe the new Suhr in a not too overly bright glow to accentuate the curves.
