There is one of these on the classifieds ATM which interests me, but I don't know anything about them.

Anyone who's had one care to enlighten me on what they are like?

Really nice. Tube pre-amp, two channels, fenderish clean and drive channel capable of serious filth. Good DI capabilities too. Had one briefly a couple of years back but preferred the Kingsley stuff in a similar vein. Can't recall why

  • I was looking at these until I heard Tom Quayle demo the Wampler Ecstasy and decided THAT was the tone I was after.

The Blackbird seems very versatile (especially with the option of switching tubes), and is capable of producing some great tones.

I subscribed to the Effectrode site some time ago and have read a lot of the material on the site. They certainly seem to take a pride in the design and build quality.

I should add I was looking at a Bogner Blue, but this seemed like an interesting alternative.

Great unit- what it does well is EQ. It's the closest thing that's come to make me think of getting rid of Pete Cornish stuff.

    It's a preamp basically.
