I had to work with Ian about 10 years back doing the sound for the Ronnie Lane tribute.  Absolutely top guy.  RIP.

A genuine hero of mine.  He's on some incredible records too. 

His book "All the rage" is an absolutely cracking read if you even vaguely like the Small Faces, Faces, Stones etc.

Fantastic book, comes across a really nice bloke, very funny and very modest.

Stroke at 69 according the The Guardian news report. And he had big plans for next year too. Very sad but what a great musician. Here's my favourite McLagan moment.
