    Thanks for sharing. I had a decent outdoor space in the last house where I could play at guitar finishing & assembly, now I need something I can do on the kitchen table :) Is the dye and ronseal method something you can do indoors without being er, overly aromatic?

    Yes.  The water-based stuff is very user-friendly and washes off most things, and Ronseal itself is quite odorless really.  Definitely kitchen-table approved.
