Have you been getting as many christmas cards this year?

What's Hot
We have found a reduction in the numbers received and so have a few others.  Anyone else?

Send me your address, and some stamps.  I'll stick some in the post to you.
Having trouble posting images here?  This might help.

  • Christmas cards are dying out a bit. Old people use them as a sort of "I still remember you exist" notification once a year. Young people use social media for the same job. And the old people are dying out.

I certainly don't send cards unless I'm giving money.

It's meant to be a surprise, @TTony. ; I could PayPal you £1 as a gift and you could "surprise" me with a card.  ;-)

  • I keep a stock of ones received in previous years in case numbers fall to an embarrassing level....

I got a nice one from @gspbasses the other day.

Much nicer to get one like that compared to the obligatory ones from colleagues at work who have gone out of their way to piss me off all year.

I like handmade or individualised cards... But mass produced ones given to everyone you know always makes me worry about the trees.

  • tbh I don't care ... once upon a time they were useful as roach but nowadays shopping lists seems to be the best use for them.

I send them to people who don't have an email address and to whom I can't be bothered to write a letter. I never hand them out to people to whom I can say Happy Christmas verbally, or better still have a pint with them.

@WezV you'd like getting a card from my mum. She personalises them and re-uses the decorative parts of cards she received the previous year.

I think it's a conspiracy by old acquaintances to make us feel embarrassed when we receive a card from them, when we haven't sent them one.

  • Ive received the same as last year, that being none. Whilst this is partially because I'm not hugely popular, it is because i make a big song and dance about not sending any myself and not wanting any in return. Much prefer spending the 25p they cost for a pack in January on a Freddo. Especially a caramel one

Fewer cards but a few deaths this year .... given the price of postage I think people are giving them a miss.

Remember, it's easier to criticise than create!

Nope, I've a big box of 36 here and they are definitely Freddo. I'm not sure when it changed, maybe at the same time cheese and onion/salt and vinegar swapped packet colours

We sent our last Christmas cards about three years ago.

We included a note that said from now on, instead of spending sixty odd quid on cards and stamps, we'd be making a donation every year to The Teenage Cancer Trust. Which we duly have done every year since.

You'd be surprised about the amount of people that no longer send cards to us as a result. The whole "give to receive" mentality is alive and well!
