I can't help but think the control plate on here is lined up wonky to the body. Do you agree?

Hmmm- yes, it does. But you need another tele as a ref point or shove the scratch plate on as seeing things in sits we don't expect can change perception.

However,  assume that the controls should be perpendicular to bridge plate back (90 degrees?) so yeah, from the holes, deffo.

Lovely grain and finish on it- hope it's not gashed because of this.

  • It looks slightly off, yes. The bottom right corner also looks as if it's rounded differently from the left (although that may be a trick of the camera).

I could be an illusion.  I've had a few Teles (factory Fender included) that haven't looked straight but have been.

It is, but that's vintage correct.

Ah, ok. Is the alignment of the control plate something that will annoy you every time you look at it?

Pop the bridge on, it should be parallel to that.

If it isn't, there is a bit of wiggle room provided your wiring around the pots is tidy, though you'll obviously need to dowel and redrill the control plate holes.

  • the wood grain could be throwing you, as it almost runs parallel

It's the grain and reflection causing an optical illusion. Squint at it till the grain disappears and it straightens up.

  • On the second shot it looks okay - I think the run-off in the grain is making it look 'out' when it isn't. As @p90fool said - put the bridge on and recheck it then.

I think the grain is playing tricks on the eye.. as is the first photo the tail end seem inclined towards the body's edge whereas in the second photo it looks as though it's drifted towards the bridge.. (spooky)

Nice slab though... what make is it?

[edit]... that cutaway seems out of proportion in the second photo(?)

Yeah, can you make the pics a little less grainy?

I agree, second pic looks like it is slanting the other way. Step away and have more (-insert beverage of choice-).

    It's MJT.

I only have my phone. If it's wonky, can it be rectified?

    Yes, hold the phone still.....

There's not that much room for error with a Tele, and I'd be a bit disappointed if MJT can't get it right/lets it out the door without doing an easy fix to a supplied or acquired body.
