Looks like a "False Widow" to me.
They can be nasty- keep well clear.

    Here is another one:

You don't have to kill it but I wouldn't try to give it a hug.

It looks like a false widow spider, Britain’s most venomous arachnid, kill it but be careful, they bite when they are annoyed (very not nice).

kill it with napalm, for safety sake. It does look like a false widow, so careful with handling.

  • Blimey, yes, that's Cecil, he lives in my bath. I wondered where the bugger had gotten too.

Please return him to 24 Acacia Avenue, Sheffield, S6 ACN.

    So does my Mrs  ;)

Simple answer: don't annoy her then.

I used to have a pet banana spider, came out of a box of bananas, poisonous but not deadly.
Met up with a spider expert at Chessington Zoo to identify it, of all things he was the elephant keeper.
Behind the enclosure he had loads of tarantulars, amongst other large spiders, nasty bite but not deadly.
They tend to shed irritant hairs at you if really annoyed, which doesn't do them much good, or you either if they get in your face or eyes.
Most creatures tend to walk away from trouble IME.
The biggest he had to show me was the shed skin of one that was over 12" across, jet black hair like ermine, and the size of a dinner plate, wow.

Why not use the glass and card trick, collect it up, put it outside at a safe distance, you rarely see the same spider again.

All things deserve to live.   :)

We found 3 in our house this summer! They like to live under furniture, chest of drawers etc. We found one by chance then went looking and found the others!

Nasty buggers but I still can't bring myself to kill spiders - well not directly - I marched them down the road to release them further from the home, but spied a road drain and tipped them down! At least they had a chance!

Surely the neighbour of the beast would need to live at 664 or 668?

gah, I hate this prejudice against odd numbers. People are allowed to live in 665 or 667 you know.

But then they'd be on the opposite side of the road!

Unless you're saying Satan lives in a cul-de-sac! a 666-667 house cul-de-sac! Or some sort of Towerblock of Torment...

not always. Odd numbers being on the "wrong" side of the road is not universal and when it does happen it's because of a deeply ingrained dogma of certain town planning departments who are the first wave of a new world order who are determined to bring down our freedoms and force us to submit to the bland mediocracy of even numbers. Well, not this patriot, they will take the number 7 from my cold, dead hands.
