This isn't shocking but music is pretty much worthless other than live. I heard a girl in the petrol station the other day laughing at people for getting iTunes vouchers. "Why do people still pay for music?" she asked her friend. Music may be worthless to this very common yet wise girl, but it's priceless to me.

I don't know about hat but some enterprising band made an album of silence and got their mates/fans to listen to it on repeat every nigh, all night, while they slept. I'm guessing that's banned now.

The funny thing is everyone thought it was piracy thats killing music revenue but its really streaming that put the nail in the coffin.

I'd be interested to know the stats for cash earned via plays on youtube+ads.

I honestly think music, or at least indepent music, might benefit from a tipping culture.  I'd rather chuck an extra £5r in for a good gig/exceptionally good album than buy merch I might not wear.

Why is ad-revenue on Spotify worth so precious little compared with Youtube?

4 million views a month would pay relatively very healthily on Youtube.  Perhaps Spotify just needs to be replaced by another, with a different philosophy.
