Happiness is just a choice you make from one moment to the next. If you aren't happy now, you won't be happy with an extra million pounds in the bank, a ripping six-pack, a model partner, or whatever else you've conditioned yourself to believe you lack in life. Just be happy.

There's been a lot of research into happiness. One of the older surveys, which is probably outdated and discredited now, had three lovely keys:
    3. What you do for a living, and who you work with
    2. Where you live, and who you live with
and number one: whether you decide to be happy or not!

Maybe this thread should be cross referenced to @Bucket 's "expensive guitars" thread http://thefretboard.co.uk/discussion/30631/developing-increasingly-expensive-tastes#latest

Happiness is wanting what you have, not having what you want.

There are definitely situations in which you can't choose to be happy.

Absolutely. Bad things happen. But too many people are unhappy in their lives for no good reason, and a lot of it is the misconception that happiness must be pursued, achieved, acquired or otherwise earned, which is bullshit. imo.

Stuff is not that important. And time is definitely more valuable than money.

I think I can say with certainty that nobody has ever said....on their death bed......Wow! I am so glad I had the 2 x Ferraris. Because, at the end of the day....seeing your kids grow up is "over- rated" :D .

On the human need to feel Safe.....(and reasonably secure)

About a year ago Ed Miliband announced policies for the private rental sector to address the chronic problems of people who go from 6 month tenancy to 6 month tenancy....and have no peace of mind...no feeling of security.
The Prime Minister immediately rubbished the proposals and said there was no need or demand for longer tenancy agreements.
My jaw was on the floor.

    Out of touch? Not much.

While I agree that stuff is not always the be-all and end-all I don't really see why the five minutes at the end of ones life is more important than any other five minutes throughout the life. It would be cosmically disappointing for someone to spend their lives in deprivation so they can pat themselves on the back while circling the drain only to find their last moments are spent in too much confusion and pain to allow a time of satisfied retrospection.

Tbh, I think I'm doing ok in life, having a great house and material stuffs

Growing up, I would have thought the above would make me happy, but what makes me so so happy is that I have a beautiful Fiancee and Son to share it with.  The house is so great, because me and Lisa stay up late and decorate and have a laugh.  The guitars are great because I sit with Flynn and have a singsong.

I've always believed it's who you're with that makes you happy, and my family prove that to me.

Money is overated, but sure helps sometimes
