Strymon vs EQD

Hi all, 

Im looking for a tape delay 

I think i have narrowed it down to two 

El capistan and Disaster transport JR 

I have recently sold my eventide time factor and am buying a much simpler digital delay but i want some tapey goodness that is easy to mess with 'on the fly'

Has anyone had both of these pedals and if so how do they stack up? Is there anytheing else in that kind of ball park that i should be looking at?

I've owned both at various stages. The eqd is darker, weirder and more natural sounding and is essentially two delays plus reverb. The El cap has tap tempo and takes up less real estate, but the dtsr sounds better, imo.

I'd go EQD, coz balls ta Strymon and their cult of personality marketing.

EQD...because they are simple and sound fuckin' good

every strymon i've heard in person sounds clinical...does a lot and has a lot of features knobs and all that...but just doesnt sound good

No Strymon fan here and EQD is a mixed bag in my experience. Personally I'd look at a Wampler Faux Tape Echo. More options to play with, I think it sounds better, and it has tap tempo should you need it.

the tape delay portion of my Superdelay sounds great. the "old tape" settings are really warm. I cant speak highly enough of the SD, and they're definitely worth checking out. Build quality is superb, they have digital to analogue to digital conversions i believe, so sound tremendous, and you wont sound exactly like every other Strymon-toting yawn-monger. or something. (strymons are very nice i'm sure, but dont interest me in the least). Youtube them.

Think there was a Skreddy Echo in the small ads here recently. Maybe not exactly what you're after as it's an echo, but my goodness it's a lovely sounding bit of kit.
