What I was thinking. Boss SD-1 is my favourite TS variant.

Get a Skreddy P19 for lead if you want thick and rich?

I wouldn't really describe a big muff as a transparent overdrive.

Loads of the suggestions here are good though, really you'll just have to try a load and find one that works. Does it have to be transparent? Drives with a character of their own work great for a solo boost.

No, I wouldn't say a Big Muff is a transparent Overdrive, but nor would I call a Transparent Overdrive Thick and Rich either.

Actually, this reminds me of a demo, Pedal Projects' Growly.

Indeed, hence my suggestion of perhaps not necessarily looking at transparent overdrives.

I'd go with the Xotic AC as well. It's very versatile and works well with every amp I've tried it on. The eq is great for tailoring the sound to suit various pickups.

Tube factor is my "go to" for rich overdrive.

The problem is trying all the pedals you lot recommend. All I really have to go on Is youtube videos, not the best way to go.

I've got a Rockett Archer and my first impressions were not good. However, once you get it set up right in front of a responsive valve amp  -wow, it really sings.

So, what amp are you using? And are you looking for a pedal to give you the bulk of the tone, or to work with your amp?

    Did you try a Zendrive?

I was using a Hughes and Kettner puretone head and 2x12 cab. I'am quite tempted by a wampler plexi drive.

    or...

    Caline Orange Burst.

Cheap as chips overdrive and very useful.

I bought a Rockett Archer off the first 500 direct & it wasnt for me either. Nowadays I use a Modded Boss SD-1, but then Ive used an SD-1 for about 15 years tbh

    Have you tried a tubescreamer?
I'm still loving the Dr.J Green Crystal overdrive I got from Coda in their sale for £25. much more flexible than a regular tubescreamer.
