  • Dave Friedman at Rack Systems is doing some cool stuff stateside. I have just invested a truck load of cash into a Friedman Brown Eye.. And all I can say is OMG!!!!! I cannot describe how cool these amps are!!!!! I was using Bogner Ecstasy heads for years but since this little gem my studio tone for rock is outrageous. Gone is the overly compressed sound and now I can hear everything I play. Altho it is very revealing so you cant hide behind anything. Its a very honest rock n roll amp which ooozes mojo!!!!! Anyone thinking of ordering one or having Dave mod their Marshall all I can say is do it. I have since ordered a 4x12 cab for the Brown Eye, a Friedman Taco and a matching Taco cab for smaller jobs.

Are there any british amp makers who produce amps comparable in sound to the Friedman Browneye, Cameron Ole Bitch / Atomica / CCV or PWE Event Horizon, basically I guess a modded marshall style capable of Doug Aldrich / Reb Beach type sounds.

If you want that tone both Doug & Reb are John Suhr amp devotees, both Suhr-modded Marshalls and/or the Custom Audio OD&PT100 series amps.

Dan Gower springs to mind, he does the Cali mod and is UK based. I've not heard one in person butI've heard from friends who have them that there fantastic.

Thanks for the responses, found some good videos of the CAA amps. Would love a Browneye but finances suggest otherwise!
