NAS hard drives

What's Hot
I just bought a cheap NAS enclosure with 2 bays. I intend to buy 2 identical HDDs and set it up in RAID mirror configuration. I reckon 1TB drives will be enough.

I did but a drive on Amazon but it came in just the anti static packet and I want sure I trusted it to be a genuine WD branded drive. Actually, the serial number said it was originally sold to a system builder. I returned it.

I'm looking for recommendations for good quality, reasonably quiet drives and where to get them. Seagate Barracuda is one possibility, around £40 on dabs.

What's the difference between a NAS-specific drive and a common or garden drive?

Most contents on NAS are not used or accessed all the time so it spends most of the time idle, the drive is geared for that and in the case of WD Red, they are warranty for 3 years, vs 1 for the more performance drives. There are other tech like how the platter is better suited in a NAS environment where it is stacked next to 5 other HDDs etc.

    You're right. I didn't know the smallest was 2TB.
In which case go with the WD Red.
