I do anyway, but if the main effect of having a LinkedIn account is going to be even more of it, then having one is clearly not going to be to my advantage.

Some of these "recruitment agencies" don't have any idea of what they're doing. I have always signed up with agencies as a Software Engineer, but still get emails asking me if I want a 3 week job 65 miles from where I live, changing circuit boards in air conditioning plant. To start with, if I was out of work, there's no way I'd make enough in 3 weeks to justify the travel over that distance, still less so if I was staying in B&B during the week. Secondly, it would help if changing circuit boards was not described as an engineer's job. Thirdly, it would help if their database searched on the whole of the string "Software Engineer" not just "Engineer", but I guess their "Computer-Says-No" girls aren't smart enough to tell the difference.

I was on LinkedIn, but got so totally arsed off with requests to link with complete dickheads that I ditched the account. I might start it up again if I was desperate for a new job, but apart from that it seems to be a platform on which bellends demonstrate to anyone they can find how well they've done in life.*

*Present company excepted, of course.

Oh, and don't get me started about recruitment agencies. They're useless.

I have an account which was slightly useful for applying for jobs when I was unemployed (note "applying", not "getting"). I don't get any spam from recruitment agents from there (I get plenty otherwise) but the emails Linkedin send me about jobs is quite pathetic.

What I don't get is people who I have absolutely no connection with professionally but are facebook friends who I see often in real life anyway, sending me invites to join with them on Linked. FFS, why?
