Antique shops

What's Hot
Ok sorry if this is a stupid question but sat watching antiques roadtrip and virtually every antique shop they go in they haggle with prices and often pick items up much much lower.
So is this the general rule of thumb with antique shops that u haggle with shop prices or what?

I bet if we went into a shop with a camera crew, promising your shop national promotion we would get a decent discount :-)

Without one I think they would tell us to bugger off :-D

it is generally considered OK to try and haggle, though depends on the shop. Haggling in a west end shop is probably less acceptable. If the dealer has had a piece for a while or needs some cash flow, then they'll be more flexible on the price, if it's something that's likely to fly out the shop they'll probably politely decline your offer. Most antique and book dealers I know are generally happy for a bit of horse trading, just don't take the piss. And yeah, I'm sure they play up to the cameras.

I'm not locked in here with you, you are locked in here with me.

I think it's ok to haggle for anything you want to buy now.  Worse that can happen is they say no.    I suspect Sainsburies won't budge but I thought it was fairly standard for antiques.

You can normally knock 10% off the ticket price as most dealers will build in haggling room automatically.

I wonder how many punters watch these antique shows and expect the massive discounts that the guys on there get. "Hold on, you did it for him! What's wrong with my money".
