It's worth trying scotchbrite abrasive pads. They work really well and because they're flexible, they're really good for doing curves and getting into inside edges and surfaces etc. Perfect for the horns of that strat.

The more time you spend getting a decent surface now, the better the finished job will be. I know it's a PITA getting all the old finish off and prepping the surface properly but you'll be cursing yourself if you don't. Been there, done that

The maroon ones I think, but I can't remember to be honest, was a long time back!

Right, following the recent generosity of the board and the nice weather ive sanded the bastard right down now.

Got the heavy duty paper out and stripped it all off the front and back-sides not quite done but shouldn't be too much more trouble.

No pics but will see if I can finish it off over the weekend with some finer grit sandpaper and hopefully it'll be ready for some filling and spraying....

Looking great, Lloyd. Not sure how I missed the thread but glad to see the body being enjoyed. I like surf green, but that looks better and will sound better without that gloopy paint.

I like a surf green too but this build is all about practicing nitro finishing a body for my MIM tele. I'll make my mistakes here hopefully....

Pics update-sanding is complete. Could maybe do with going down another grit level before painting but will get to that as and when. Finishing the sanding off was really therapeutic, enjoyed it and the smell is nice too!

It's bloody soft wood so needs wrapping up until painting, but bodes well as I want it to get a beaten up look once finished:

That's really nice piece of wood, I wouldn't be able to cover that grain

White blonde won't cover the grain mate, will be able to see through the paint-I'm doing it thin too so should look nice. Agree about the grain-not bad for £15!

That is looking really good. I'd love to do this to my strat but I don't think I have the patience.

@benvall if you've got a spare guitar then do it.

I've spent about 40 mins max at each sitting doing it-if you've got an electric sander then everything else is do-able without losing the will to live....

It's taken me a few months but I'm happy to dip in and out of it.
