What EQ pedal?

What's Hot

Sooo, I posted a WTB ad for an eq pedal and had some suggestions but now I'm thoroughly confused!

I've looked at an Empress Para EQ but they're a bit pricey, as is the EQD Tone Job. I've checked out the obvious Boss GE-7 but it's noted as being a bit noisy. I've seen a MXR M-108 and it's little brother M-109, as well as a Fender Micro EQ but I know nothing about them.

Budget is up to £150 but I'd rather keep it close to or below £100 if possible. Thoughts?

  • Pick up a used GE7 thats already been modded for silence.
Shouldn't cost you much more than 50 english.

If u want Para eq, but are wincing at the cost of the empress wmd do a fully parametric eq (3 band) for much less.

My first choice would be the GE7 everytime.

Modded GE-7. I got one from here a while back and it's great.

  • Source audio programable EQ. Having 4 presets is useful. It's got loads of lights too, which is always a winner.

I don't find the GE-7 that noisy as long as you don't use it as a booster. At unity it seems OK.

I've looked for a modded GE-7 and I can't find one. I'll just have to keep my eyes open then.

    Thanks!

Get a GE-7 and mod it yourself. I fitted the Monte Allums mod and it's rendered it almost silent. I have also tried the Danelectro Fish & Chips and really liked it and they can be found cheap.

The MXR M108 is superb. 10 band and includes a gain and level control.
I started out with nothing..... but I've still got most of it left (Seasick Steve)

I'm quite interested in a parametric EQ, but as noted above, the Empress is quite pricy.

I notice BYOC do a parametric EQ kit, but it looks like quite a complicated build for a beginner (and also seems a bit expensive considering you have to do most of the work yourself.)

There's also the EHX Tube EQ which has a parametric mid band and fixed bass/treble bands, but it's much bigger than a normal pedal and does not run on a standard 9v power supply.

  • Check out the WMD Para EQ, unlike the Empress, it's fully parametric :)

That WMD looks nice but doesn't seem to be that easy to get in the UK.

Also, just noticed this on Thomann: Artec Parametric EQ

Only a single band, but if space doesn't matter you could get 3 of these for less than the price of any of the others.

The flashy lights on the Source Audio pedal seduced me. That and the vids I saw of what it can do, anyway :)

thats what I was about to say.

Empress stuff is awesome, and surprisingly small in size
The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.
