Mountain bike shorts look a lot better. I only go full lycra if I'm doing more than 40 kms.

I wear my Lycra UNDER my MTB shorts - best of both worlds!!

Off up to the bike shop to look at options now

If anyone wants a virtually unridden Cannondale SL5 XL frame or an xXL Specialized Allez Sport road bike with about 3000 miles on the clock let me know !!

I don't see the problem with wearing Lycra..

Actually this looks a bit of a bargain if you're after a hybrid.

I still love my 29er Mountain bike I got.  It goes like a rocket.  Has a large frame which fits me and I could fit smoother tyres if I wanted to.  Only complaint would be that the ring gears on the crank are a bit small, so your top speed is limited and the larger wheels give you less control at slow speeds.  Unless you are doing serious trail stuff, I think all the ring gears could be stepped up a few teeth and the smallest one I never use, even on a steep slope.  I guess it is there to get you out of trouble doing 0mph over a log though.

Great bike though and slightly out of fashion now I think for the stability/high centre of gravity reason and also the fact that it is harder to lift the front wheel up.  But 29er's should make excellent hybrid bikes I would imagine with a bit of modification.

MTB s are heavy for road use though. Hybrid designs are a lot quicker.

Kind of relative with age.  My MTB is about a quarter the weight of my old hybrid.

My road bikes about 6.5 kgs. A decent hybrid should be about 9.

I must be behind the times.  My MTB is a large frame and about 13kg and I can pick it up with my little finger.  My slim frame hybrid is about 18kg. It was £180 new in 1989 though.

I took advantage of Spain 's collapsing economy and got a Works bike for three grand in a bankruptcy sale. Orbea, as used by Euskatel, about third of what it should cost.

A Barcelona business here gets all the really cheap stuff. It's called fabregas, like the footballer, and ships. Cheap as fuck compared to Uk, but you need to watch the site.
