Bloody hell! 58! That's no age....

When someone dies at a young age it's always a tragedy; when it's a musician the rest of their career is lost, as well as the person.

What would his next record have been like? 'In Step' was a great come back - sadly I suspect he would have just got better....

The date someone is born is their birthday.

So you can mark that date whether they are alive or dead.

He is no longer around to experience it, however his friends and family will be.

RIP Stevie, the great thing about music is that even when guys like this are no longer with us, we can still enjoy their music and they can still be influential. I am sure he has influenced as many, if not more people since his death than he did when he was alive. 

So whatever Drew_fx says - in a way SRV is still having an impact on the world of music - even though he is as he so aptly and profoundly puts it.... "dead."

And he deserves to still have an impact - he was, and is phenominal.

I thought that the usual way of referring to the date of birth of someone now dead is as the anniversary of their birth - similar stories on the news programmes don't use the term 'birthday' IIRC.
