Just remember, you don't have to make up for it in February ;-)

I've been trying (!) to ease off on the booze over the past few weeks.  By 'ease off' I mean 'don't get drunk several times during the week'.  I've still had a couple of pints (literally) when eating out etc, but not beyond that.  Come Friday just gone, I felt justified in buying a bottle of my favourite vino - which I duly finished that night.  ...and glancing over to my right I can see the two-thirds empty bottle I opened last night.  I have to say that making a concerted effort to not drink yields results... I feel distinctly fuzzier and more lethargic this morning after drinking almost two bottles of wine in just over 24h, compared to feeling definitely younger and more alert in the week after not drinking any alcohol for a couple of days.

The weird thing is, I never used to be a drinker...  it was a standing joke amongst my mates that I was a 'lightweight' on the pop, but since I packed in the fags, my consumption has rocketed.

I think it's time I stopped being a dick with my health.  It's coming up to three years since my heart attack and although I've stopped smoking, I've done almost nothing else to change my lifestyle - if anything I'm worse...  I eat (mostly) what I want, drink more than I should and take zero exercise.  I've got to stop playing cardiac roulette.

I was full of good intentions earlier. Mrs C and I have fallen off the wagon this evening, however. It went something like this:-

    "What's for dinner?"
    "Chicken, salad, and baked potatoes."
    "Is the oven on?"
"No, now you come to mention it."
"Well, you can't cook baked spuds without the oven being on."
"Ok, I'll go put it on."

    15 minutes later -

"Did you put the oven on?"
    "Ooooh, no, I forgot."
"Never mind, get the vino out, and put it on now."
    "Have we got any potatoes?"
"D'you know, I thought there was something I forgot. There's crisps in the cupboard, though."
"Silly cow, you can't have chicken and crisps."
"Yes you can, but it won't be quite the same, that's true. Top this glass up, will you?"
"It happens every time, you plan the meal, but half the fucking ingredients are missing. Fill this glass up, eh?"
"Yeah, well, if you were to do the shopping once in a while........."
"At least I'd remember to take the fucking shopping list with me."
"Would you fuck, you can't even remember what day it is, half the time."
"Well, yes, but it's a shame you can't remember to top this glass up."
"I just have, but you've drunk it, you pissy fucker. What is it? Are you stuck to the poxy chair, or something?"
"No, of course not, anyway you're enough to drive any sane man to drink."
    "Sane? Hah!"

The evening will no doubt continue in this vein, until we both fall asleep on the sofa.

I always do a dry Jan though...Good for the soul and the waistline.. :)

After yet another year of drinking fat too much and for al the wrong reasons, I adopted dry January with a subtle twist - only drinking socially.  So, not at home except with visitors and only if others are drinking while out.

Total alcohol consumed from 1st January to date is less than two bottles over four evenings thoughout the month.  Seems to be a good way of doing it as I get to drink occasionally, and I enjoy it far more, without the coming in from work and opening a bottle as a matter of course.

Saved about £175 at the supermarket too................

I think I got the wrong end of the stick with dry January and thought I was supposed to drink the house dry - now the wine rack is looking very sad  :(

    I quit alcohol on January 24th 2014.
Still off it 14 odd months later.

Other than quitting smoking it has been the best thing I've done for myself.
No plan to get back on it.

Reckon I've saved myself a few grand and about 20 lbs of weight.
Here is a before and after pic:
