Overdrive in front of reverb pedals....

What's Hot
Anybody know how I can avoid it sounding horrible when running overdrive into reverb on high decay?

I know the best way to avoid this kind of thing is to run the verb in the loop but I only have a Blues Junior so I don't have that option.

Is this possible to solve any other way or is that just the way it's gonna be?

  • If the amp is clean, and the drive is coming from the pedal, not the amp, then it should be fine having the drive run into the reverb, then the amp. Not quite the same as the loop, but it shouldn't be too mushy.

Of course, some like the mush.

I run o/d and distortion into verb on a clean amp and never have issues with mush.

Reverb into Dirt will be much worse, unless you do the fx loop thing

I don't think I've ever used an FX loop in my life apart from a bit of experimentation but I can't say I ever had a problem. I think if you use the max amount of reverb anything's going to sound mushy and indistinct.

Use drive into verb in front of an amp all the time and it sounds fine.

An FX loop is only needed for amp dirt.

Never had a problem either, although i always wonder just how much headroom inexpensive digital pedals have got for taking massively boosted signals.

  • Ok chaps. To be fair I have been running high decays on my verbs...
