Strat Scratch-plate Size Differences

So I've got some Straty spares kicking about, pickups n stuff and a couple of rather groovy paisley scratch-plates.   Thinking of making use of them, buy something cheap-ish and putting together a Nashville tuned strat.

 The scratch-plates are made for Mex/US dimensions and I'm wondering how difficult it can be to fit them to a cheap copy-is there much difference (screw holes aside) and what tools etc would I need to get it to fit? Would say a Squier be more likely to be close?

I'm sure there are other variations from time to time but I think it is generally just the screw holes...certainly in the various combinations I've done in the past...
