Which pedalboard?

I wonder if anyone can help me decide which pedalboard to buy.

I have 10 pedals, all standard size (MXR size enclosures), mounted with Velcro. I'd like to power this from two HB Powerplant Jrs, slung under the board. Ideally I'd sling a 4-gang power strip under there too.

So ... PT-2? Another PT model? Or is there another brand I should look at?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Lay them out on the floor as you want them set up, measure the board size needed and compare to specs on the Pedaltrain site.

Just make sure to allow room for patch cable connectors.

I was eyeing up some pedalboards the other day. In the end I knocked together something myself as a temporary measure, but in the course of browsing I noticed a brand called Charlie's Pedalboards which look quite promising and come in different sizes and configurations. Strings Direct sell them.

There's a Palmer pedalboard for sale on Gear4Music too that looks interesting, if a bit closer to the PT style.

I bought a PT-3 thinking that it would be more than enough - it's nearly full with about 10 (including a wah) on it

  • The Palmer ones are on thomann as well.
Pedaltrain came out with a bunch of new sizes at NAMM. Don't know when they get to the shops.

I bought an Emma Electronics one last year.  Similar style to Pedaltrain but a bit cheaper.

  • I reckon you fit 10 MXRs on a PT Jr. at a squeeze. Depending on specific layout and what patch cables you want to use :)

Plywood and bike chain links will work on a budget and you can have any size needed. My opinion is biased as I dislike velcro. Can the Pedaltrains accommodate your choice of power supply? You're able to mount the Voodoo Labs stuff underneath with the supplied brackets.

quite interested in these..... though I'd have to get a custom size, which may screw me for cases.

My current solution is a home-made plywood board, albeit covered in loop fabric rather than using chain links. The problem is getting the cabling to be neat. I don't mind patch cables running on top (and I'm making custom cables to tidy things up) but I'd prefer the power to run underneath ... and getting that to be tidy apparently exceeds my woodworking skills ...

I'll have to double-check the height to see if there is enough clearance. I'm assuming the brackets won't fit, so I'll have to come up with some other way of securing the PSU to the underside of the board.

Piece of high density foam from work with cable ties threaded through the foam to hold cables down:

Ot may not be as pretty but it was completely free and if I ever get more pedals I can just get more foam and make a brand new one.

    :)

  • Wisdoms duly awarded for pointing out all those other brands - looks like I have a few good options.

Before I look at buying new, is anyone selling a board which could fit my needs?

I've just bought their two tier one, works great for me, was £75 with soft case.
