In my case at various times.

Because I need the money to buy a guitar
Because I don't need it for my current band
Because it doesn't integrate with my current setup
Because flexibility is more important than ultimate sound quality sometimes

"I need some cash"?    is very likely.

but I've been in the situation where...

"I love the sound but I'm not gigging that sort of music now, and would like to buy something I will use and I'll buy another one in the future"?

Love my M5, it doesn't work in the fx loop of my new amp so it's no longer suitable for me.

  • because despite its awesomesness it is too savage and a bit of a liability live
The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

Because it might well be the best but the amount of cash it is worth doesn't make it that much better than something far cheaper. A £400 delay is great but it's not giving me £350 worth more goodness than a £50 delay.

Because it's a Klon I bought when they first came out and for what I'll get for it I can buy a new guitar and an amp.

  • I thought it was the best pedal ever after reading loads of hype on internet forums, but now I realise it's not and I need to buy another pedal after selling all my others to fund it in the first place.

Because I like to torture myself with the exquisite pain of knowing that I deliberately got rid of the best pedal I ever had and will never, ever achieve that nirvana of sound ecstasy again..
