Ohms question (head and two cabinets)

I have a head with 4, 8 and 16ohm options.  It has a 'main' (use first) output and an extension output.

 I have two 8 ohm cabinets.  Both have two sockets.  One has no specific labelling, just two sockets; the other has two sockets, one for the head, one presumably to connect to a speaker.

I've set it up with cables from the main and extension on 4ohms.  Is that correct?  And how do you connect the speakers up using just one output?

"Usually" (because I don't know for sure how your stuff is wired up) you run a speaker cable from amp to cab #1 and a second from cab #1 to cab #2 and set the amp to 4 ohms.
