After a lot of chopping and changing, and generally being pinickity for no good reason today I hope is the last new guitar day for the year, ladies and gentlemen I give you my nice new smells like chocolate Gibson midtown custom.

Unusually for a Gibson I can't find anything wrong with it except maybe slightly square frets but that's all. Sounds great and the richlite fretboard feels like any other to me. Still trying to get used to the spounds but hopefully it'll stay.

I've never played a midtown or seen one in the flesh. How do they differ to a 335?

HNGD. I dig my Midtown Custom (black). Really versatile sound and look. For those wondering, sizewise, these sit in between the small bodied 339 and the big 335 and they have Burstbucker 1&2s.

Not as thick with a flat top no contours. Back is one peice mahogany hollowed out enabling the jack to be side mounted and the top on mine is a 2 peice maple. Earlier ones where 3.

I'd like to try classic 57's as the burstbuckers don't sound as sweet to me

  • It's got to be the best value Gibson by a mile. My mate said he fancied a 335 so I told him about the Midtown, he got one from Thomann and he loves it.

To be honest I'm surprised at the price they knocked these out for the solid back can't of been cheap to do?

Looks nice. Just a shame (from my personal point of view) that these only come with a slim taper neck.
