Have a chance to get a slot playing in a covers band( 2 guitars)

Setlist based around bands such as Nightwish, Halestorm, Evenense etc.

Looking at pub gigs and smaller halls what would the forum oracles suggest worth a look.

Budget £500 ish

Not bothered whether valve or SS

Have seen the Peavey(loud amp etc) in classifieds, but too far away to collect.

Laney VC30's are pretty versatile, good value and within budget.

Sounds like you guys are going to ROCK! So unless you want to have a clean platform and use pedals for drive, 2nd hand Marshall perhaps? - JCM 900s are great value compared to the more collectible ones. New, maybe a Jet City 50w head and 2x12 cab. Not much of a clean sound in there apparently, but plenty of crunch and lead.

    Mesa/Boogie DC-5.

There's one in the classifieds here I think.

"Take these three items, some WD-40, a vise grip, and a roll of duct tape. Any man worth his salt can fix almost any problem with this stuff alone." - Walt Kowalski

"Only two things are infinite - the universe, and human stupidity. And I'm not sure about the universe." - Albert Einstein

    My two cents

    Jet City JCA50H £230

    Harley Benton V30 loaded 2x12 £150

Give you £120 to spent on some nice pedals or a colourful mic stand like the previous nightwish lass used to use.

You need a proper high gain head for this.

I've been in many bands covering this territory and you'll need something tight and saturated.

Engl Fireball / Powerball -  will do it but might push you over your budget as you'll need to get a decent cab too.
Peavey 5150 / II or 6505 / 6505 +  - probably come in on budget with a 2x12 if you look around the used market.
Framus Cobra / Dragon - Tight. Ideal but rare.  They don't hold thier value so you could find a bargain.
(EDIT: 5150 III 50 watt - I would recommend this but it's over your budget, even 2nd hand!)

Speakers I would recommend for this are Vintage 30's or G12H's.
This is not an official response.

Yeah, Jet City will get you the most bang (and gain) for your buck.

  • Thanks for the comments.

Jet City seems to be the way to go.
