    Worth a lol

There seems to be an ashes/World Cup/T20 world series or whatever every couple of weeks, They're killing cricket for me....more

    doesn't, mean better.

I only pay attention to Tests nowadays.

  • I agree with you @lloyd . It's devaluing the game.. I know why they're doing it but I already like cricket. Your comment re tests is bang on imo.

Totally agree re devaluing the ashes....50/50 is an important component though

I don't doubt the importance of the other codes, I just don't have time to follow all the sports I love so focus on the Tests alone. Didn't they have 2 World Cups in one year a while back?

Ridiculous and a bloody shame, Rugby's been going the same way too, playing the AB's used to be a special thing, now we play (and get beat) them nearly every year.

I wish people at the top of international sport would realise that some of it's specialness comes from the fact that it's not week in week out and it's not all about money....It's pretty short sighted what they've done so far and builds apathy, I haven't gone to a game of cricket at OT in the 2 years I've lived in Manchester.....

I really only watch Test matches, but seriously, would we be talking like this if we weren't being routinely humiliated at ODIs and were genuine World Cup contenders? My Kiwi wife is trying to feign sympathy. It is pathetic. By which I mean she is from NZ, not that I have a wife in every former colony.

@lloyd this might sound crackers but I've never had the affinity with English cricket that I do with rugby. Arrogantly, I believe it's because I actively play against a lot of test cricketers from all nations and intend to watch for people I know to do well. Aussie reserve keeper Tim Ludeman is a good mate of mine and we share the same bat sponsor, so I'd want Ludey to do brilliantly even against England. Equally, I've played against Woakes quite recently and I thought he was a right tool, so I chuckle when he gets smashed.

I like the test series and county T20 (and IPL) but not very interested in 40 or 50 over matches. I had a season ticket for Sussex last year and only went to one 1-dayer. The difference in turnout is massive - the ground is mostly full for T20 matches and half empty for the other white-ball games. Mostly empty for the long form. You can see why clubs are focussing on T20.

(And the cricket world cup is among my least favourite international competitions. It almost completely passes me by. The only thing that makes it interesting is that you get to hear about countries playing the game that normally don't get a mention.)

@JohnPerry I've never been a huge fan of ODI's so I would be saying the same thing regardless, I'll not change the channel to watch a 50/20 over game, regardless of the likely result.

I'm Welsh so supporting the English cricket team is a funny one for me, I'm never too concerned at a loss and never go mental with a win (I did enjoy 2005 Ashes win immensely though) strange, and I'm always more bothered when there's a Welshman in there!

People who play (currently) tarnishes it for me, certainly meeting footballers has for football, though I still love the game. There's many aspect of it that I don't-both on and off the pitch.

Went to check the Arundel website to see whether you meant 7th June or 6th July and it seems to be the latter. But they have it down as a Sunday (which might be achievable) while my diary suggests it's a Monday (which wouldn't). Which do you reckon is right?
