Refins in the North West

Hey folks! Having been mightily impressed by @BowynMadley s Gibson LP Studio, I've decided to take the plunge myself! I've got a Gibson Les Paul Studio that was originally black which I've stripped down to bare wood. I was going to have a go at refinishing it myself but have come to my senses. Can anyone recommend someone in the NW (I'm in Preston) that does refins? Ideally, I'll need a clear glossy finish on the back and sides, and a gold top type finish on the top. Cheers in advance!

I'd have a word with Graham at Raygun relics - he does some really nice finishes, think he is in the NW if Warrington counts. 

Alternatively, Rich - @Iamf68 - did Bo's one and has done some great finishes for half the forum, so I'd give him a shout and enjoy the ride

Couldn't agree with @JookyChap more. @lamf68s work is awesome. He takes such care with everything he does and takes the attitude of if I wouldn't be happy the customer won't. I'd take the plunge and send it to him. Plus he was around half the price of Manchester guitar tech. All the best with the project man I hope you get the same satisfaction I did at the end.

Thanks - I do refins from time to time but tend to pick and choose the jobs I take on. 

I'm about to tackle a 60s Hofner Verithin as I haven't done one before.

The only refin I've ever paid for was done by a local car sprayer. Super steady hand, they can use whatever you want paint wise, turn around time is really fast and it was way cheaper than any "professional guitar centric" refin. The finish was faultless. It;s not surprising as it's what the guy had been doing every day for over 20 years.

I have tried that a few times and in my experience most car sprayers don't understand the difference between spraying wood, metal or plastic.

But yeah, the experience certainly helps... But I have met a few who assumed that meant they had nothing to learn and the techniques were directly transferable.

Find a car sprayer who likes guitars and you are onto a winner

Damn you - I really want one of the Raygun Juniors now! He's only down the road as well - thats worse! Gah!
