Ringleader of the Cambridge cartel, pedal champ and king of the dirt boxes (down to 21)
I also inherited a power tool case that was very sturdy, plus the top unclipped at the hinges leaving the unit still in the bottom of the case for protection on stage.
Old Line6 POD XT bags are good too (got mine new for £20 when Sound Control were selling them off).

Top Man - Thanks
Apart from guitar cases, I've tried to have an open mind with regard to sourcing cases for stuff.
If you look about there are cases for general purposes in markets which don't demand the specialists premium. Ok so they are not full on flight cases but with a small amount of modification they do the job perfectly, you just need to keep your eyes open when being dragged around the shops, Argos, B&Q, TK Maxx.

There are tough beauticians cases, don't laugh, some even look like small flight cases, they don't have to be pink, as ETW has offered, laptop cases, tool bags, they're tough and cheaper. I find TK Maxx has a weird assortment of cases and rucksacs which might do the job.
I'm big into 'soft' camping (motorhome) and all the electronics bits like TV, radio, ipad, DVR, tools, guitar amp and multi effects! are all cased up in tough bags or cases just for ease of handling.
Good luck.
I need something for my Zoom G3X
I wrap it in a towl / bubble wrap then put it in a small ruck sack - not ideal.
