Happened last night , just missed a step when going to get the kids toothbrushes and twatted it full on into the wall.

Beyond making sure I complain to the wife a lot and say 'ouch' every time I raise my medicinal glass (bottle) of vino is this something I may need physio on if I want to keep being able to play along to Spirit of the Radio? I have Bupa if needed, But in 14yrs have never called em.

Is this just a man up and cope with 3 fingers situation ?

Oif that would screw me up, I often play power chords with first and little finger. It would screw me not being able to use my little finger.

I did a gig with Arlen Roth in my youth and he was an advocate of using your 'pinky' as little as possible due to its lack of strength.

Perhaps while you're recovering, the limitation of not being able to use it might be 'liberating' in some way?

  • Lifeson barely used his pinky.

It's cerainly going to be tricky test driving in Coda on Monday morning.

Good to hear it should get back to normal. Fingers crossed (maybe not just right now though...)

I would definitely get that professionally looked at just in case it's more serious than you think.

  • Have you actually gone to Docs ? If not do it Asap. Otherwise you could have complications. Other than that, Put a slide over it and tune to Open G!

  • Not been docs , wife is a registered chiropodist and she took a look and strapped it so I'm thinking toe=finger care . Might Bob for an X-ray at A&E tomorrow. Sunday mid morning should be slow business up there. Friday night not so :-)

dont be daft, ive broken all my fingers and im currently playing with a crushed middle.. most fingers ive broken more than once.. rugby innit ;)
rest it by taping it to the finger next to it for a while.
rest it, just dont rest it too long..

I broke my ring finger on my fretting hand just before Xmas (micro fracture to be exact) have a restricted range of movement and a fair bit of discomfort. Have an appointment on Monday to see a specialist. I suspect they'll want to amputate or something. Fucking hate hospitals.

I'm not locked in here with you, you are locked in here with me.

An overhand planer ate my little finger down to the first knuckle, so I lost about an inch or so on my fretting hand a few yrs ago. I was worried it would drastically effect my ability (read limited ability) to play guitar, but as it turned out I don't use my little finger as much as I thought. All I'm trying to say is, you'll be fine, worst case scenario, you'll adapt.

I broke that finger too playing footy [just a few weeks after getting signed, album about to release.. the label went mental]…
looking at the X-ray broke my heart.. I thought that was it..

straight to A&E and tell them you're a muso
they'll put it in a mallet splint and then start you on physio
even whilst I was in the splint I carried on playing with the other three fingers..
I was determined that it'd not make a difference [Django inspired]

my lil' finger never healed quite right [will not fully straighten], but I do have full use of it..
and I can still play to the level I could [probably better] than before the accident..

so.. get to the hospital, tell 'em you're a guitarist and get it sorted ASAP
play every note as if it were your first

Cheers all. Was supposed taking the kids out today but hopped into A&E instead. Let's hope that they don't amputate @vimfuego. :-)

I broke knuckles in both hands numerous times when I was younger and a great deal more stupid. It stopped me gigging one time and never happened since.

I'll never do hand modelling that's for sure but after a while I always got there or thereabouts back in dexterity.

Shame you're not a lefty, that looks like a great fingerpick. ;)
I broke my little finger and now it's nearly 1cm shorter but hasn't hampered me too much.
