Keep meaning to drop some money on one of those replacement speakers that Watford Valves sell, but never quite get around to it.

If you do, don't bother spending more on expensive valves - I tried that in one I had and it made no difference whatever. (With top-quality old- production valves too!) Possibly the least valve-sensitive amp I've ever heard.

There are a couple of things you can do to reduce the hum - I increased the filter cap value and moved the filament wiring away from the PCB, if I remember right.
