Fender Twin users - Preferred speakers? (updated)

Think I've blown one of the JBL D120f speakers in my Twin, so debating whether to get a re-cone, or change speakers full stop.

Thoughts?

Should mention it's a partially blackfaced '71 Silverface Twin

*EDIT* Have just ordered an Eminence Swamp Thang to pair up with the working JBL. One of them is blown, just tested them :-(

Oh well, it's a cheap-ish solution really. A re-cone was quoted at £129+VAT… with no mention of delivery costs both ways!

Inevitably someone is going to say Weber Alnicos and when I bought mine my intention was to swap.  I usually change the speakers in virtually everything but have to say comparing them to a few others I really think the Jensen C12 is a great speaker for them so I left it as is.

Have a look at the Weber VST High Power Series.

Not the same, but I repIaced the stock speakers in my Twin Reverb reissue with a pair of Weber 12F150s, and they were a good improvement. Imported from the states no problem (tho' talking 3 or 4 years ago now).

I'm trying to keep things purely in the clean realm… not dirt will be going through it. 

EVM12L is a very appealing choice, if weighty.

The new EVM12L do not seem as weighty as I remember them.. Made in Mexico now. Thomann.de have them for £138 at the moment. 8 ohms only these days.

This is why I wanted separate head and cab. Would make a 40kg combo otherwise.

Have just ordered a Swamp Thang from Thomann… first time I've ordered from them. Used paypal, but get the feeling I should have put the money into my paypal account first to stop my bank creaming of the top :-(
