Composition Challenge #8 - ' Searching for that new sound'

I have a mate who's a professional sound engineer and I watched/worked with him using it many, many times so it has a certain familiarity. I'm slowly becoming more fluent with it - there's nothing quite like thumbing through a big thick manual (and, yes, I did buy a paper hard copy - I'm that much of a luddite!) to stifle your creative flow.

I'm quite pleased that I've got some drum fills happening for the first time - in the past, I've always struggled with getting them to sound anything other than stilted and mechanical but I'm pleased with the results I'm getting with Addictive Drums now. It does take sooooo long, though, compared to just telling a drummer what you want.

I'm not going to get everything I'd like finished  in time but I should have something presentable by Friday night.

There was a guy in Computer Music a year or so back uses an early version of Cubase on an ancient PC - the stuff sounds amazing and he says his minimalist setup foces him to be creative. Addictive Drums is a good package - I have a copy as well. Would be funny if we ended up with the same drum break .. :-)

Actually I might be persuaded as I am trying to move flats today so yeah to anyone watching new deadline till Sunday night one time only!

Oh that's good news, as I won't have anything by tonight but hopefully will have by Sunday.

I actually had a very rambling dream last night that included a deadline extension, so I'll take the credit for this happening even though PolarityMan asked for it

Still slightly troubled by my intended entry for a "new sound" is yet another amalgamantion of "borrowed" elements but we shall see if anybody recognises them

I wouldn't worry about it - the 'new sound' I'm most pleased with is drum fills.

I've made a start .. my project is called Marmite (not the final track) .. it's weird so you'll like it or more likely hate it .. :-)

Sent my effort in, it's too long and basically just repeats the same thing over and over ( try not to wince too much at the piss poor vocals, I tried to disguise them as much as possible with effects )
