  • Skated a lot from the ages of 17 to about 26.
Then quit due to it hurting lots.
Had the odd push from then until about 30, when I completely stopped.
Now I'm 33 and just discovered a massive brand new concrete park is being built 5 minutes walk from my place. Ready this May/June.

Shall I buy a new board and helmet and get back into it?

My favourite video would probably be Jump Off a Building or perhaps the very early Heroin Skateboards release with the footage of Southsea and Fareham.

About 15 years ago, a few of my school mates used to skate back in the day, and they were all pretty good at it.  Intrigued, I bought a skateboard off one of said mates, took it out to nearby pavement (it was that smooth tarmac) and headed for the local shops for a magazine or something.  Ten yards later, I fell off, hurt my knee, got up and hobbled home.  Never skated since.

I started skating when i was about 10 or 11...use to skate about 3 hours a day. My brother was always a better street skater...back in those days (mid to late 80's) he was the only guy in the area that could ollie over a bin or onto a picnic table.

I was more into ramps...but there wasnt any skateparks close by...and our group (of about 20) use to go and steal plywood from construction sites and estate agent signs and build ramps in the local bushland...but those ramps would only last about a month before police would go and destroy them.

stopped skating in my early 20's for a few years but got back into it.

Since coming to the UK i havent skated, but when i get back to Sydney, the first thing im doing is getting a deck and starting up again.

Too old to go crazy...but will probably hit the bowl on a regular basis...i just want to hit the tiles and do some lean backs...maybe pop a few airs...but mainly going for old school tricks.

Also @MatthewShreddery, yes, you should buy a deck and hit the park!

I lived on the South Bank, Chingford ramp and Romford Bowl as a teenager.

I have the scars to prove it still.

@MatthewShreddery thats what im planning on doing. Never skated it when i was in sydney as i was skating street more. But when i get back ill live close by to it...ill have to do some early morning rides to get my confidence up before i go during the day with other skaters.

But i know what you mean about scary...i remember going and seeing Vans Bowlarama and thinking that is big vert drop!

I had an Argos skateboard as a kid, but I only went down hills on it. I could never get the hang of pushing off.
