SAAB back in production!

What's Hot
I realise that it may not be something that set's you up for the day but I just read that SAAB are back in action.

I have had three SAAB's over the last few years and I am delighted.

    Good news.

My dad had one years ago and it was ace.

Lets hope they can rid themselves of the GM influence over time and get back to the old school SAAB.

my grandad drove cattle,   not very well and without training.  Some say he was a bit of a cowboy

I can't see how they'll survive building a car designed 11 years ago even if they give it a face lift.

Remember, it's easier to criticise than create!

Still decades ahead of Porsche then. ;)

    I had an old built-from-girders 900 Turbo, a new-shape 900 and then a 9-3

    Red ones are better.

I really hope that they survive - if only to provide an alternative to the usual German marques.

But it'll be tough.  Can't see that they'll generate the volumes from an 11-year old design sufficient for the manufacturing quantities that they'll need to (a) be viable in the short-term and (b) generate enough R&D funds to create new models for the medium/long term.

Having trouble posting images here?  This might help.

That's good news, I've had 2, a 99 and a 95, a black one, it was known as the diplomats car at work. I really wanted the new 95, but the company folded, bmw is nice but is common as muck. Not sure that SAABs business model helped! Hope it works out.

Had a 9-3 Aero a few years back, the 2.8 V6 turbo.  Beast of a car, but the handling did not match the power, too much "Vauxhall" under steer for me.  Also, the SAAB dealer service was consistently bad.  GM destroyed a fine Marque

Not really it's GM crap. My brother in law was a Saab fan and had loads of them. Great cars until GM wrecked the brand. The 9-3 was the worst car they ever made. You need more than £500 million these days to launch a new model.

I wouldn't describe our 9-3 as crap. I've had many fine cars (Lexus IS200, Merc C200 x3 etc) and this is up there with them. Perhaps not quite in the league of Lexus but certainly an equal to the Mercedes.

    Good looking car too.

Pleased to see it, I had a 9000 and it is without doubt the best car I've ever owned. If they go back to the SAAB model of over engineering everything the cars will be fantastic.
