Juansolo's DIY pedal buildage thread (renamed)

What's Hot

I wouldn't normally post my pedals outside the DIY forums, but I'm a little bit pleased with this one...

I suppose I should start with what's in there. The first effect is an UltraStoner fuzz on Pickdropper's MiniMuffin PCB, that goes into a Madbean Zero Point Dual Delay, followed by a Madbean StageFright (Maestro phaser) and finally into a 1776 Effects Rub-a-Dub reverb.

All of these effects stand alone or will work with any or all of the others in order to create some great psychedelic soundscapes. It's almost like they were made for each other.

I reckon this might be the best effect I've ever built...

Be gentle with the next bit, we're far better at building them than playing them. It's a demo of what it does rather than what we can do with it ;)

Run it at 720p for better audio.

Wow. That could replace most of my smaller pedalboard!

Another new one I'm quite pleased with. A Lovetone Doppelganger clone.

Built using LaceSensor's layout and most excellent instructions, on a PCB etched by Haberdasher. I also need to give props to Soldersqueeze of the Madbean forum for sending me some Futurlec 2A LDRs gratis, you da man! For reference we used LM324 / LM358 in LFO side and TL074 / TL072 in audio side.

I omitted the expression pedal and dry out jacks because I'll never use them. Theres a bit of a twist on the pots as that's how they went in. As it was uniform I left them as they were. Oh and the indicator LEDS aren't soldered in on the top of the board pic, which is why they're wonky.

The shallow one with the multi in is a 1590DD the deep one with the Doppelganger is a 1590D. The latter is cheapest bizarrely from Maplins (the only thing they're cheap for!), the DD came from GAPco.

That space ritual is awesome...out of interest how does that fuzz sound with scoop knob rolled all the way off?

It's a mid control wired backwards essentially in this case. All the way counter clockwise it's almost flat, all the way clockwise it's VERY scooped. Not quite swollen pickle scooped (as that's too scooped IMO), but really not far away from that :)

This is the fuzz bit on it's own though it's wired the other way around on this and labeled mid:

Another demo from Lew who has one also:

FWIW, we've got bits left to make a final pedal... That'll go up for sale when it's done some time in the new year.

There have been two more in the meantime. One for Cleggy and one for Andew W over on the BKP forum

  • What type of white decal paper are you using.

I'm not ;)  They're transparent and the box is polished up. Gotta be careful what you use on the decal when doing that and it makes them a proper swine to photograph.

The white decals you can get from the place that I get the transparent film ones. They're a bit awkward though (though I haven't used them recently) as the adhesive was a lot stronger so they were difficult to get flat. I tend not to bother. If I need white, I use a white powder coated box instead.

    Anyhow, the Hashishian got made:

That one's for sale... £250 to anyone interested. :)

This is total porn. You could hang these pedals on the wall of the Tate Gallery, after ditching all the other shite they have up there!

'nother new multi. Thought I'd add it to the thread. A board in a box.

Not in a hurry to make another one of these, a LOT of effort req'd.

  • Holy cow, that's literally my set up, even having phaser post delay.

How does it take power? Does it need just one power, or several?
