I want to put a flourescent tube light and seperate pull switch in my shed.   I have two 13 amp sockets out there already - what do I need to do to achieve this (apart from pay an electrician, of course).?

A 5A fused isolator box, the pull switch, the light and some cable.

You're not supposed to connect lighting directly to a ring main or a spur since the fuse at the distributor box is too high a rating to protect it, so you need the isolator.

Cool - thanks.  What does a 5A isolator look like?

    ...ish.

When you search for 5a fused isolator box in Screwfix, you get this:

Is what I need actually a small consumer unit?

    Thanks.

They look complicated.  I'll use a table lamp for now and save up for a sparky to come round.

You don't need a consumer unit, you're just taking a feed off an existing ring main (or spur). I can't get the links to work from my phone for some reason, but just do a Google image search for 'fused isolator' and it's the first thing that comes up. You should be able to get one from any DIY shop.

Try searching for "isolator switch" or "5A FCU" that should get you what you need.

not if there's one already feeding the two 13a sockets (which admitidly I didnt read originally)

If there isnt, Id want a breaker between the shed and the "house mains"

It's called a switched fused spur with a 5 amp fuse in it run a 2.5 cable from the socket to the spur and a  1mill cable to the light and that will do you the connections are marked live and load  being a sparky I should know don't forget your earth sleving  :)
