Low-C string just wont bloody intonate

    Yup, that's certainly an issue @digitalscream,

    Correctly cut nut and heavy enough strings are needed to intonate, yes on a 5 this is done for you, but it certainly doesn't mean a 4 cannot, and it isn't much work at all. The issue is setup, not 4 strings being unsuitable for tuning low and 5 strings magically suitable for it. After all, the saddles across your bass are the same, and at the high end they can intonate a high G, and at the low end an E out the shop, the difference is just the weight of the string.

    If you tuned to E and intonated it correctly then you got a straight edge from the saddle of the top string to the saddle of the bottom string and carried on the line to where an imaginary 5 string saddle would go, that gives you some idea of whether you will ever get your saddle back far enough to intonate for C.

    110 seems light for a low c string. I use a 135 for my low b, I found a 130 too light. I'd say let the string brand and material dictate the tone, and get a string gauge that works for intonation
