Trading goods - best way to post

I'm swapping a pickup with a fellow forumite. What do most of you guys do for postage; do you send things in the normal post, or is it better to go registered/recorded, or signed-for? I'm not sure what the current Royal Mail offerings are to be honest...

Special Delivery for anything valuable (over £50 up to £500 compensation IIRC) and you get tracking, and a guaranteed delivery time (next day by noon, next day by 9am). 

Recorded Delivery gives you just that, proof that it was delivered but no tracking in-between, and compensation up to £50, and can take a day or two.

Yeah, for something of reasonable value I'd always use Signed For, just in case.  Maybe even Special Delivery for "guaranteed" delivery by a certain day/time.
