Guitar cleaning cloths

What's Hot

I just got one of these (actually arrived D'Addario branded):

Perhaps unsurprisingly, it's a waste of time and leaves more shite (flecks of cloth) on the guitar than before I started cleaning.

Any advice on the best kind of cloth to use?

Thanks!

    I use a microfiber cloth.

Get a nice plush one from Halfords, I use the cheap Kent ones from ASDA on the car, but for the guitar I use a thicker one.

The ones from Poundland are excellent, the "Drying cloths" are nice and thick.

When you wash them, make sure you do not use conditioner, it screws them up bigtime.

All to do with the electrostatic properties allegedly.

The ones for the car I soak in washing up liquid/white vinegar to break down the wax.

On a guitar one you should just need to use the liquid detergent.

Old well washed not fluffy towel or teatowel.  Nothing better.  Perfect on fancy cars too.

B&Q were selling big bundles of microfibre cloths and I brought a load. They are excellent for cleaning or just giving the guitar a wipe down after playing.

I use the best cloths money can buy. Old socks and T-shirts.
Those things they sell at an inflated price with a guitar related logo are a waste of money. They're usually too small and shed fluff. Microfibre cloths from the pound shop are better (and cheaper).

    ^This

What's wrong with an old t-shirt, the type that has had all the lint that is going to fall off, pre-falled-off 5 years ago  >:)

Those ones are fine for light dust but no good for getting off sticky kiddie handprints

Wet and dry always seems to get the gunk off....

Actually anything that's been washed a lot is perfectly usable.

I use the finest cloth made from baby Peruvian unicorn tail clippings. That or an old t shirt, whichever is closest.
