Anyone any thoughts on this? Borrowed one once, seen one that might be up for grabs - I know they are cheap for what they are, but anyone any views on what's a keen price? It's one of the first ones like this

    £2.50

    Seriously, they are cheap, seen them go around the £500 - £700 mark, not bad for a USA made guitar if it's your sorta thang.

    Can't open the link without it taking me to the fecking William Hill app in the App Store - so don't know the model.

    They did a really elegant walnut fronted set neck with proprietary pick-ups, a set neck with conventional humbuckers and a bolt-on.

    I've played examples of the latter two - fingerboards were unbelievably flat, both a bit weighty - though build quality was exceptionally high - as you'd expect from Taylor.

    I agree with @dindude on prices - though in truth they 'should' be worth a lot more.

    It's now marked 'sold' - but that's the set-neck one with standard HBs I was referring to.

    IIRC, it was about £1500 at Sound Control in Manchester at the time - at a guess 7-8 years ago.

    Given they were never popular - in spite of being very nicely made - a 'niche' guitar, to say the least.

    Certainly would need to be well under half the new price to be considered 'a deal' IMO.

    Unless of course I'm wrong and they are now highly collectable.... ;)

    I've tried them and already own a Taylor T3. Disappointing. Expected superb but in reality they are only OK. Just don't have the depth of tone of tge equivalent Gibson or PRS even.

    @RichardHomer - they're all bolt-on necks, no glue here!

    I really liked the look, feel, and tones of the doublecut model, I'd be happy enough to buy one at <£800 used.

    Sorry! You're right, now I think about it - the two fancier ones were more 'Gibson'-like (hence my thinking 'set-neck) and the cheapest one was ash bodied with a maple neck - very Tele-like in fact.

    As I said earlier, I only ever saw two - even a local dealer which stocked a lot of their acoustics only ever stocked one (the Tele-like one I referred to). It seemed to take forever to sell.

    In generally a big Taylor fan btw.

    I'm a big Taylor fan, I like their thinking and guitar making philosophy but not a big fan of these solid body. It's great quality in both material and craftsmanship but just neither here or there aesthetically, it does mean good bargains can be had though. A pick up change might make it a beast.
