so I've got a brand new black scratchplate goin on a tele. I need to age or get it aged. Any tips for havin a go myself? Or is there someone on here that can sort it for me? I don't just wanna go at it with some wire wool and then it just looks like some has just gone at the plastic with wire wool rather than old/ used. Thanx in advance Gu :)

Is it 'plastic' or proper Bakelite? Spray a few costs of clear cellulose on it, leave it for a week, then wire wool it where you want it 'fettled'.

Rub with used Tea bags to dull it

I think it's plastic rather than Bakelite although it look "right" if that makes sense. And it's black if that makes a difference. :)

I'm starting a bakelite Esquire one today (time permitting).

Need a motor for my buffer so could take a while.

Lacquer the pickguard... let it dry for a few days..... start wet sanding, with 600 - 800 grit.... applying slightly more pressure where you want the wear-through don't worry about the shape of the spot, everyone's wear's differently. Once you begin to see the underlying pickguard, proceed slowly at the wear target... stop with the wet sanding when it looks right.. and polish, yer dun...

Well I started, then forgot, about my prototype.

    Pic a bit cloudy....

Need to level the orange peel around the string path because that area is staying quite shiny.

Top half needs some work too, bottom half nearly done.
