The ES Les Paul's are great...especially with a Bigsby of course ;-) http://i1268.photobucket.com/albums/jj563/not_the_dj/5DF0D87A-389C-4217-9720-F801F78F7082_zpskdjw3lgu.jpg

Could they not have made the f-holes the right size for the guitar? Or at least not like an afterthought which conflicts with the bridge pickup location.

Is that the design team? That figures…

    :)

If you're going to do something, do it right. Admittedly this seems to be a problem for Gibson.

Here's one where they got the size of the f-hole right, but unaccountably forgot that there are supposed to be two.

For me that one looks wrong, too close to the edge.

They don't work for me at all I'm afraid.

I actually prefer the single f-holed one that @ICBM posted to the doubled ones but even then its not quite right.

Not a new model 'to catch on' as theyve been around for years, just Gibson have 'reissued' a batch for 2015....

Which ones do you mean? The ES ones (proper ES construction) have only been around for a couple of years. The Florentine's been around a while of course.

I've never like the traditional f-hole shape.

It looks too fiddly and ornate.  It belongs on old instruments, not modern ones.
Having trouble posting images here?  This might help.

Tele Thinlines have been getting away with a single f hole for years.

Yes, but they have a pickguard over where the other one would be so they don't look odd.

    Same with Rickenbackers.

If they'd got it right, that would've a cracking guitar..
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.

I like the 339, but the LP doesn't quite look right. 335s are too big and bulky for me to play comfortably (plus they make me look like a midget.)

I do not like the 339 or these F*-holes in LPs or Tellies, Strats or other cross-over aesthetic.

Some things are just not meant to be...
