Impulse Response Question

Hi All

If i load Amplitube 3 into my DAW,and choose a Fender Amp,then put a Vox Impulse into my
Convolution reverb and play, what is it i am getting.

Am I getting the sound of a Fender Amp played through a Vox cab?

What would i get if i loaded GTR3,which does not have specific Amps, and put a Fender impulse
into my Convolution reverb.

I am trying to understand exactly what it is i am listening to when using the impulses.

Thanks

Alan

Yes. You can think of IRs as complex EQ profiles.  Speaker IRs are created by sending the range frequencies at known input volume and measuring the output volume.  Of course a microphone is involved, and adds its own frequency response on top of the speaker's.

Thanks Roland Does this mean that what I am doing is not the best way.Should I only use Vox Impulses with a Vox amp,or Fender impulses with Fender Amps? Alan

  • I'd use whatever sounds best for you.

I use mesa models on the line 6 pod farm, followed by an American preamp, followed by an eq, compression then (finally) a cab model on pod farm - which is a vintage Marshall one.

No idea if it sounds accurate (doesn't sound like a rectifier to me!) but it does sound decent enough for ideas.
