Surprised we don't see more recommendations for pots and suppliers. Is there no difference in pot quality? Will anything do?

No, definitely not. There are big differences in quality. Generally you want Alpha for guitars with 'far east size' 8mm bore holes, and CTS or Bourns for 'US' 3/8" bore holes. CTS are the traditional 'best', but their quality varies widely too, and you're better to get them from specialist resellers who will specify a higher grade than the bog standard ones.

Switches are a bit simpler - Switchcraft for Gibson-style toggles and CRL for Fender-style lever switches. Oak Grigsby used to be good for lever switches but there seems to have been quite a loss of quality recently.

Jacks are the easiest of the lot - Switchcraft only. There is simply no point in fitting anything else - they're the best by a wide margin and only slightly more expensive.

"Take these three items, some WD-40, a vise grip, and a roll of duct tape. Any man worth his salt can fix almost any problem with this stuff alone." - Walt Kowalski

"Only two things are infinite - the universe, and human stupidity. And I'm not sure about the universe." - Albert Einstein

    Thanks @ICBM - very clear.

  • @icbm my oak grigsby 3 way pretty well fell apart after six months light use. Replaced it with another but it also started failing - it's very loose and doesn't click into place.

Now I use a crl, got a 5 way and a 3 way in use. Hoping they last, they're built differently.
